Management of Term Breech Presentation and External Cephalic Version

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Breech presentation occurs in 3 to 4% of all term pregnancies [1]. Vaginal breech delivery rate has declined significantly since the Term Breech Trial, which showed lower serious perinatal mortality and neonatal morbidity after planned caesarean section delivery at term [1]. External cephalic version (ECV) is proven effective to prevent vaginal breech births and Caesarean sections [2]. The fetus is manipulated from the breech to cephalic presentation through the maternal abdomen. Success rates between studies vary from 30-80%. ECV is considered safe. There were no excess of intrauterine fetal deaths related to ECV recorded in a large series of 1,078 consecutive ECVs [3].

External Cephalic Version and Reducing the Incidence of Breech Presentation

External cephalic version (ECV) is the manipulation of the fetus, through the maternal abdomen, to a cephalic presentation. This guideline summarises the evidence regarding the routine use of ECV for breech presentation. The rationale behind ECV is to reduce the incidence of breech presentation at term and therefore the associated risks, particularly of avoidable caesarean section. The evidence...

RESULTS Among the 60 patients who were recruite...

Moxibustion in breech version--a descriptive review.

The management of breech presentation at term remains controversial. It appears logical that maternal and perinatal outcomes would be improved if breech presentation could be avoided. External cephalic version is considered a safe procedure if cases are selected appropriately and anaesthesia avoided. Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese method of treatment, which utilizes the heat generated by ...
